On Wednesday, November 16, 2016, Horizons for Youth paid tribute to two organizations that have been fundamental to the success of Horizons for Youth: Old St. Patrick’s Church and OMI Industries.

Thanks to their vital contributions, Horizons for Youth has been able to repeatedly demonstrate that with the proper support, every child — regardless of academic ability level, socio-economic status, or race — can achieve academic success.

Horizons for Youth was founded in partnership with Old St. Patrick’s Church. Beginning with five kindergarten students at The Frances Xavier Warde School during the 1991-1992 school year, Horizons for Youth offered scholarships and enrichment outings, with the goal of growing over time to serve more children from low-resource neighborhoods in Chicago.

With continued support from Old St. Patrick’s Church and the addition of another key supporter, OMI Industries, Horizons for Youth was propelled forward, empowered to serve hundreds of Chicago youth with the comprehensive programs and services they need to persist to and through college. Today, 25 years later and in large part because of the invaluable support of Old St. Patrick’s Church and OMI Industries, Horizons for Youth is changing the trajectory of 250 kindergarten-college students’ lives.
