Kathy Malchow Scholarship Fund + Horizons for Youth

Kathy Malchow believed that access to academic opportunities could change the world, so she was passionate about providing them to students from under-resourced communities. For the past 27 years, Kathy’s family has connected her legacy to organizations that help create this impact.

Horizons transforms the lives of students by providing targeted educational resources in partnership with families and community networks. Students join Horizons in elementary school and the
organization’s unique model helps them establish academic expectations, overcome obstacles, open
doors to new experiences, and develop realistic and motivating post-high school plans (college,
vocational training, or career launch).

This year, KMSF is again combining their personal commitment to Horizons with the generosity of
friends and family who understand the impact of this high-touch program that creates so much
opportunity for deserving students.

KMSF has pledged support to four young women who are attending Chicago-area high schools as members of Horizons for Youth.

Meet Jeanette

Jeanette graduated from Resurrection College
Prep this spring! She finished strong, continuing
her A and B average. She credits some of her
academic success in high school to Horizons for
Youth’s resources, including regular tutoring in
subjects as her needs arose. She has demonstrated her passion for helping people throughout high school and will continue to do so in college and beyond. Jeanette will be attending Loyola University this fall where she will start pursuing her dentistry career plan. Her goal is to one day help people find their confidence in their smiles. Jeanette’s favorite Horizons memories are related to her mentor; they’ve shared amazing memories and created a lifelong bond!

Meet Jada

Jada graduated from Chicago Hope Academy this
May! She stayed busy throughout high school,
achieving high grades while balancing her extracurricular activities like managing the girls’ basketball team and running track. Jada is thrilled to be headed to the University of Alabama this fall, where she will pursue athletic training. Her interest in health care and medicine, combined with her passion for sports, helped her identify this track. She envisions providing top-notch care and rehabilitation for the top athletes of the world one day! Jada says that the best part of being a Horizons student has been “gaining a bonus family who loves and supports you no matter what, even once you graduate!”

Gratefully,
The Malchow Family
